Empowering Women in Cancer Research: Highlighting Leadership and Equity in Our Community

Share this:

We’re proud to spotlight a significant moment in the conversation around gender equity in science. Our very own Scientific Director, Prof. Kaylene Simpson was featured as a keynote panellist in the Empowering Women in Cancer Research webinar – an initiative led by the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) in partnership with Amgen Australia.

This is the first webinar in the series focused on sharing the lived experiences, leadership journeys, and practical advice from women at the forefront of cancer research. Drawing on insights from a survey of over 200 women in the field, the event delivered thoughtful, authentic content to inspire the next generation.

Featuring:

  • Professor Tracey O’Brien AM, CEO & Chief Cancer Officer, Cancer Institute NSW
  • Professor Kaylene Simpson, Head, Victorian Centre for Functional Genomics, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
  • Professor Marina Pajic, Program Director – Translational Oncology / Laboratory Head – Personalised Cancer Therapeutics, Garvan Institute of Medical Research

As Prof. Simpson discussed with colleagues during the latest Phenomics Australia Scientific Leadership Committee (SLC) meeting:

“this kind of national platform offers an ideal opportunity to reflect on and amplify the visibility of women in precision medicine across Phenomics Australia. We stand with organisations like ACRF and NCRIS in championing diverse leadership and equitable research environments.”

Stay tuned for exciting upcoming news showcasing mentorship success stories from Phenomics Australia!

📅 The next webinar, “Building skills to sell yourself and your ideas”, is scheduled for:

3 September 2025 | 11:00am – 12:00pm AEST
