Phenomics Australia is proud to announce the publication of a new white paper titled “Advancing the Impact of Biobanking Infrastructure through a National Approach”, prepared by the Victorian Cancer Biobank and developed in partnership with leaders from the Australian biobanking community and BBMRI-ERIC.
This white paper presents key insights from the landmark panel session held on 26 November 2024, bringing together BBMRI-ERIC and Australian biobanking stakeholders, including Phenomics Australia, to explore opportunities for greater collaboration, standardisation, and sustainability within Australia’s diverse biobanking landscape.
It explores how Australia can:
- Establishing a national Framework/Agency for Biobanking Coordination
- Leveraging Digital Infrastructure and AI
- Foster sustainable funding models
- Developing a unified biobanking and data governance strategy
- Enhancing Researcher and Public Awareness
The white paper also highlights that long-term funding support (e.g. National Research Infrastructure Roadmap 2026) from the government is critical for delivering these and the future national biobanking strategy, maximising the impacts created by biospecimens. Furthermore, the opportunity for collaboration between Australia and BBMRI-ERIC should also be explored.
