We would like to welcome Professor Ute Roessner to Phenomics Australia’s team. Ute brings a wealth of experience in the development and application of metabolomics in biotechnology, risk management and NCRIS leadership to our team. Her insights will help fulfilling Phenomics Australia’s vision of better health through the discovery of gene function.
Meet Ute
Professor Roessner AM FAA is the Academic Director, Research Initiatives and Infrastructure at the Australian National University. She obtained a PhD in Plant Biochemistry from the University of Potsdam and the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology, in 2001. Her research interests are to develop and apply metabolomics methods to study plants. In 2003 she moved to Australia where she established a metabolomics platform as part of the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics. Since 2007, she has been involved in the setup of Metabolomics Australia and led the University of Melbourne node until 2019. Between 2018 and 2022, Ute was the Head of the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne. Ute is a Lifetime Honorary Fellow of the International Metabolomics Society. She has been elected to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2020 and in 2021 has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia. In 2022, she was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
“I am pleased to be able to join the Phenomics Australia team and play an important collaborative role contributing to the synergy between several health-related NCRIS members in their interactions with stakeholders and researchers”
Prof Roessner has been elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science in 2022.
