Phenomics Australia joined members of the Australian research community for a symposium introducing the new Human Immune Model Facility (HIMF), based at the Translational Research Institute in Brisbane.
HIMF is an Australian first facility, generating high-quality preclinical models with humanised immune systems, developed in partnership with The Jackson Laboratory. Their goal is to support the national research community with this pivotal capability bridging preclinical and clinical studies.
TRI-based Professor Kristen Radford from Mater Research has been instrumental in developing the models, that more accurately replicate the human immune system for studies into numerous diseases.
The models have broad application, from studying disease biology and progression to drug screening, in fields such as oncology, immunology, hematology, autoimmunity and infectious disease.
Researchers gained an understanding of the model capabilities on May 19, with TRI-based researchers and JAX partners presenting at the HIMF Symposium and facility launch. Presenters from The Jackson Laboratory included Dr. Michael Campagna, Director of Veterinary Services, and Mr. Luke Dimasi, Senior Director of Business Portfolio Management.
