The Phenomics Australia Histopathology & Slide Scanning team, a node of Phenomics Australia, supports high-quality, reproducible research through specialised histopathology and haematology services.
Recently, they collaborated with Ms Kimberly Giselle Capdevila Ospina at the A/Prof. Kristy DiGiacomo Laboratory within the School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences at the University of Melbourne, to support the analysis of neonatal goat blood samples.
This project highlighted our team’s ability to adapt workflows for developmental and species-specific haematological profiles.
“This research investigates the effects of early-life nutrition strategies in dairy goat kids. As part of this work, one experiment aims to determine how different levels of colostrum inclusion affect immunological and health status, making the measurement of blood cell counts crucial. We discovered the analyser literally next door, in the building adjacent to our group laboratory—a very pleasant surprise. This discovery allowed us to access and analyse aspects of the study that would otherwise have been unaffordable or unlikely to be included in the experiment. The professionals at Phenomics Australia provided excellent support, receiving samples and generating fast blood results for non‑conventional animal species.” Ms Kimberly Giselle Capdevila Ospina said.
