Phenomics Australia attends inspiring address by artificial heart inventor Dr Daniel Timms

Phenomics Australia’s Communications Manager, Dr Marina Trigueros, had the honour to attend a fantastic National Press Club address on Wednesday, 22nd of October, from Dr Daniel Timms, the brilliant mind behind the world’s first fully artificial heart and the 2025 Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR) Medallist.

Dr Timms, an exceptional biomedical engineer from Brisbane, delivered a powerful talk that seamlessly blended his personal journey, the complex science behind his innovation, and a compelling message about the importance of Australia’s research and development ecosystem. His address highlighted how smart policy and sustained investment can turn great ideas into breakthrough medical technologies that change and save lives.

After graduating from the Queensland University of Technology, Dr Timms’ research took him from Brisbane’s Prince Charles Hospital to prestigious institutions worldwide and to his groundbreaking work as the inventor of the BiVACOR total artificial heart.
