Phenomics Australia sponsored the 2025 Australasian Biospecimen Network Association (ABNA) Annual Conference, held in Newcastle from 22–24 October 2025.
The conference theme, “Biobanking Evolving Through Time,” brought together biobankers, biospecimen scientists, researchers, and industry leaders from around the world. The dynamic program featured expert presentations, special interest group meetings, rapid-fire talks, elevator pitches, poster sessions, and hands-on workshops, all designed to foster professional development and highlight innovation in biospecimen science and biobanking technologies.
Our National Service Coordinator, Dr Twishi Gulati, engaged with attendees at our booth to demonstrate how Phenomics Australia supports research through our national infrastructure, specialist expertise, and collaborative opportunities.
“The ABNA conference provided a unique opportunity to meet members of the vast variety of biobanks and learn about the challenges faced by the community and steps that are being undertaken to overcome them. Networking provided a great opportunity to explore how biobanks can support access to biospecimens our research community might need.”
Ms Nathalie Doucet, Manager of the Australian Phenome Bank (APB) at the Australian National University, was an invited speaker at the event. Her presentation, “Australian Phenome Bank: Integrated Solution for Sample Tracking and Data Management,” showcased how the APB database captures and connects all data generated by the laboratory team. She demonstrated how this comprehensive system links mouse IDs with unique sample barcodes, seamlessly integrated within the APB’s inventory management framework.
