Phenomics Australia’s Communications team, Dr Marina Trigueros and Ms Bridget Elliott-Rudder, connected with Australia’s science communication community at the Australian Science Communicators Conference, held in Melbourne from 12–14 November.
With the theme “Breaking, Building, Emboldening”, this year’s conference brought together communicators from research, industry, media and government. The event provided a valuable opportunity to exchange insights, strengthen national and international networks, and explore new ways to enhance the translation of scientific research.
It was fantastic to see the NCRIS Communications Panel well represented by Janie Sue Brooks (The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF)), Alina Bryleva (Heavy Ion Accelerators), Emma Joughin (AURIN – Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network), Corey Hanrahan (ACCESS-NRI), and Anita Gibson (RIC).
Their panel discussion focused on the challenge of communicating research infrastructure that is “invisible by design.” They emphasised the need to demonstrate research impact to showcase the value of enabling infrastructure, strengthen collaboration with university and partner communications teams, and promote consistent brand use to build recognition and visibility.
The conference followed the NCRIS Communications Forum, also held in Melbourne, where we explored shared challenges, opportunities, expectations and plans, generating a wealth of ideas for professional development and future collaboration. Reconnecting in person with colleagues was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our ties and spark collaborative initiatives that highlight Australia’s national research infrastructure.
