Phenomics Australia congratulates Professor Simon Jiang and the entire team at the ANU Centre for Personalised Medicine (CPM) on securing a transformative $4.5 million philanthropic donation from The McCusker Charitable Foundation.

This landmark investment recognises the Centre’s leadership in advancing personalised approaches to diagnosing and treating complex immune diseases and will help accelerate the translation of world-leading research into improved patient care.
For Phenomics Australia, the announcement is also a celebration of a long-standing partnership built on a shared commitment to advancing biomedical research. For many years, Professor Simon Jiang and his team have accessed Phenomics Australia’s national research infrastructure to produce and characterise preclinical models through the genome engineering and histopathology capabilities, to support pioneering research into autoimmune kidney disease and personalised medicine.
“The McCusker Charitable Foundation’s generous support will enable us to utilise phenomics-based personalised medicine for a greater number of individuals in need across the country.” Prof. Jiang said.
The CPM was established to bring together researchers, clinicians and patients with a common goal: translating cutting-edge science into better, more precise healthcare. This latest investment provides an opportunity to expand that vision, strengthening research capability and accelerating the translation of discoveries into clinical practice.
Behind every breakthrough is an ecosystem of collaboration. National research infrastructure plays a vital role in enabling researchers to ask bigger questions, generate robust preclinical data and move promising discoveries closer to real-world impact. Through access to Phenomics Australia‘s specialised technologies, platforms, and expertise, Professor Jiang’s team has been able to undertake research that would be difficult to achieve within a single laboratory.
Professor Jiang’s research journey was featured in the inaugural episode of Phenomics Australia’s Phenomenal Science podcast, where he reflected on the importance of collaboration and access to advanced infrastructure in driving scientific discovery. His story exemplifies how long-term partnerships between researchers and national infrastructure providers help transform innovative ideas into tangible health outcomes.
