20 Years of NCRIS, Powered by People

On 30 June 2026, the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) community came together to celebrate two decades of collaboration, innovation and impact, recognising 20 years of investment in Australia’s national research infrastructure and the extraordinary people whose expertise has made its success possible.

The national celebrations were marked by a flagship event in Canberra, complemented by satellite events hosted by NCRIS facilities across Australia, giving colleagues around the country the opportunity to celebrate this significant milestone within their local communities.

In Canberra, the day began with the NCRIS@20 Community Breakfast at the ANU Physics Building, where colleagues from across the NCRIS program gathered to reconnect and celebrate the people behind Australia’s world-class research infrastructure.

Guests enjoyed a relaxed breakfast and heard reflections from Mr Andrew Gilbert, Bioplatforms Australia CEO, and Professor Tony Haymet, Australia’s Chief Scientist, who acknowledged the vital role of the researchers, technical specialists and professional staff whose dedication has underpinned NCRIS for the past 20 years.

Phenomics Australia was proud to celebrate this significant milestone alongside colleagues from across the country. The anniversary recognised not only two decades of research support and innovation, but also the people whose expertise, collaboration and commitment continue to power Australia’s national research infrastructure.

The celebrations continued with the NCRIS@20 Symposium, bringing together representatives from government, research organisations, industry and NCRIS facilities to reflect on the achievements of nationally coordinated research infrastructure and discuss opportunities for the future.
